About me

Metal & Magic – The Art of Silent Dialogue

My name is Karin Zedlacher. I was born in 1970 in the picturesque region of Carinthia, Austria, where I still live and work today. My professional path began in the fields of social education and psychology, but my creative spirit has been with me since youth.

In recent years, I’ve discovered my true passion in metal and welding art – a form of expression where cold, seemingly lifeless material is transformed into something new and powerful. I’m especially drawn to working with scrap metal, which I find in junkyards, as well as worn horseshoes generously shared by riding stables and private individuals.

But my art is more than shaping forms. Each sculpture emerges from a deep, silent dialogue – a quiet exchange between myself and the material. The metal holds its own story, an echo of its past. I listen, I feel, and I follow the energy it reveals. That’s how pieces are born – forged not only from metal, but also from emotion and intuition.

It’s almost magical: the moment when rusty iron seems to awaken with a soul, when lines and shapes come together as if they were always meant to. Each of my works is a one-of-a-kind creation – crafted with love and attention to detail, giving old materials new life and character.

“The essence of the artist lies not in creating, but in listening.”
– Rainer Maria Rilke
